= AIX IVM LPAR Creation **Summary**: ALthough AIX is by now on version 7.3 I find these old pages so fascinating I decided to keep them. On this page I'll show you how to create an IVM LPAR. This page is for AIX 5.3 and 6.1. \\ **Date**: Between 2010-2013 \\ **Refactor**: 21 December 2024: Checked formatting. \\ {{tag>aix}} = Introduction = When logged into the IVM installed on the VIOS you see the existing LPARs in the right panel. One is always there, the VIOS itself. If you want to create a new LPAR click on the "Create Partition" button right above the existing LPARs. This will start a wizard which gives you the opportunity to create a LPAR: [{{aixlparcreation01.jpg}}] Give the LPAR a name. \\ [{{aixlparcreation02.jpg}}] Assign enough memory to the LPAR, the default is 128 MB which is by far not enough. \\ [{{aixlparcreation03.jpg}}] Assign shared or physical processors. \\ [{{aixlparcreation04.jpg}}] Set the virtual ethernet adapters to none and only use the Host Ethernet Adapter Ports. These are directly processed by the CPU which will give you an faster throughput. \\ [{{aixlparcreation05.jpg}}] Set the storage type to existing physical volumes. \\ [{{aixlparcreation06.jpg}}] Click next as you will assign storage after the creation of the LPAR. \\ [{{aixlparcreation07.jpg}}] Do not assign any of the optical disks. \\ [{{aixlparcreation08.jpg}}] Review the summary and click Finish if everything is correct. == Assigning storage [{{aixlparcreation09.jpg}}] After creation you can open the properties by simply clicking on the name of the LPAR. Go to the tab "Storage" where you can assign physical storage to the LPAR.
